Machining Older Cloth/Linen board material

Hi guys. We have all seen the older cloth board material used in 60s Marshalls. I was just given (2) large 1/2" sheets that are the exact (aged) color and was wondering if it could be planed to 1/8"? People use this stuff for many other machined parts using routers and such. I was wondering if I cut this into 3" wide sections, could it be planed it down to 1/8" without ruining my planer blades. Anyone ever tried it?
