67/68 Superbass 10,000 series Dual Voltage Tranny question

Post by tfrost33 » Wed Jun 26, 2013 11:30 pm

OK I am in the process of building a 67 10,000 series superbass. I'm currently installing the On/Off and Standby Switches. I ordered the 1203-80-ML (laydown version), It came with the dual voltage option. Which would be the era correct version?

I think I understand the characteristics of each of the high and low voltage options.

High = tighter-cleaner-more head room- brighter

Low = Darker-browner-hairier

Does that sound about right?

I am interested in lots of clean headroom. And this sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NPY4YreomM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks fella's

The higher voltage would be more era correct.

Thank you

I have been taking notes and HD photo's of the entire build process and will be posting a build journal of this amp. It may help those interested in doing one of these.

What are the dual voltages? I know some guys will choose the lower voltage of a dual tap PT on JTM45/100 builds because modern KT66s don't like the higher B+ closer to original spec. Of course that depends on which PT you use and what the voltage options are (for example the M****n 1202-43 has a TRIPLE secondary option, the highest being 560v B+!). Since you are running EL34s and a 1203-80 then this might not be an issue, but it may be worth checking out.
