Excellent!
Will it be time to put the black levant and string on soon?

Thanks Neil. That's the benefit of making a mistake on the finish! Screw it up... tolex away!
Just finished the back panel this morning. A little sanding and the some dye... then an oil finish.

Done. Came out very nice and seems to really show the wood grain nicely. I think this is the root of my obsession with bursts and other highly figured guitars... The natural luster of the grains is just plain intoxicating to me. I'm definitely doing more of these. Next up is a 1x12... made some mistakes and learned a lot.
My daughter (who's 6) has watched this whole process very closely and helped me a lot in the finishing... especially with the compressed air for clearing dust! She has dubbed this amp the "Golden One". Clips forthcoming...

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the compliments. I will be building more of these. It was just a lot of fun. I'm going in for a scope next week so I'm going to be using my downtime to plan a partscaster and the equipment I need to be a bit more efficient in the build process.
Ax, we can definitely work something out. What did you have in mind?

If you do another head cab try a black washed dye. I have a strat from Warmoth with that finish. Would look good on a head cab I would think.

Build it for a 50 watter and un finished. I would like to have fun with the finish. So as soon as you get a chance, build it the same way.

Verry verry nice! Like i said, i had plan to do this with flamed maple. I'm probably gonna try it on my soldano clone (which will be build somewhere in time when i finish my marshall project haha). And i'm gonna give it a black dye.
A bit like the randall KH sig

The black would definitely look cool on flame maple! Would blending it with some silver make it pop even more?
The dying process is really cool, but I definitely need some practice on it on some "perishable" pieces. Have you done a burst-like dye job before? How did it go and what type of dye/solvent did you use? I've got to get some more instruction from some folks who know finishing better than I. I'm well more capable in the woodworking realm than the finishing!

I build myself a guitar ones. Did a flame malple burst dye on it. Best way to make a flame/quilt maple really pop is to double stain. You stain it with the basecolor first. Then sand it of, now the dye in the grain will stay while the rest is sanded of. Then again base color, now you really got the popping and 3D maple look. THen you can add a burst if you like.
The guitar was my first dye but it is really nice to do. Take you time and do some tryouts first. I used ecoline for the color dye, but you can also use powderstain.
Here are the pics of my guitar.

Very cool thru neck. I'd really like to build my own guitar. Could be on the horizon! Great finish on that piece!
