Serious Question

Post by Dax-The-Ax » Fri May 13, 2005 1:57 am

I am kind of helping Erik through adding the 1 ohm resistors on the output tubes so he can bias his own amp. I just noticed that the Solder Wick grounding device someone put in runs from the Ground buss, to the filter caps, to each power tube pin 8 and then to the filter cap ground underneath the board!!! Should he remove this shit, or will it be ok to leave it in? I don't want the dude to get his nards blown off!!!

Personally I think it needs to go. It's dicey, and there are better ways to deal with grounding issues if they exist. Have Erik scrap all the braid and see if the amp has grounding/noise issues that need dealt with.

I suppose that's the best way to about it... I'm gonna pull all of that out, plug in and play and see what happends. Hopefully there will be no ground problems, that it was added for who-knows-what... just someones really bad version of extra measures to grounding?

Thanks.
Eric

Hopefully it's just someone's over-the-top grounding precautions. But with all the other shielding, etc. over at the input side of the board you'd have to wonder (PS Dax e-mailed me pics of that stuff and I still haven't gotten to go through it in detail yet, my apologies.)

Flames, It is certainly no prob. I appreciate the help from you guys! I pulled the wick out, replaced some caps with Sozos - and it sounds the best yet! Very excited about it!

Thanks
Eric
