Drilling Holes in a Head Cab for the Chassis Mounting Bolts

Post by redgtr » Mon Jun 02, 2014 9:16 am

I'm getting everything together for my next build, and I hate this part! Almost messed it up twice! Maybe someone can chime in on an easy way to do this. I haven't ran across anything in the forum on this yet.

We put masking take on the bottom, inside of the cab then put the chassis in place (without the cage nuts installed). Center the chassis based on the faceplate showing through the reveal on the front, then use a sharpie to mark the hole locations. We drill those locations with a small bit on a right angle drill. Turn the cab over and drill the actual hole to size with a cordless drill.

Yeah, my first cab has 8 holes in the bottom and only two work. Fortunately, I don't move the cab much at all. When I do, it is very carefully.

Other way is similar but use a caliper to align the hole inside and out, if you use tape you can indent the tape mark it and drill all from the outside (I have not got a right angle drill adapter!).
