What Iron Specs Do I need?

Post by FourT6and2 » Mon Jul 27, 2015 4:02 pm

I'm building a Marshall-esque amp. Layout shows a JTM45-type laydown tranny with 350-0-350 volt taps and an OT with 3.4k primary. I'm trying to figure out what iron to go with. Does it matter if I go with a PT @ 350volts or can I go with one like the Heyboers in the Metro store that are up at 410v? Will I have to change anything else in the circuit? Let's assume the components can handle voltages up to like 500v.

The 350-0-350 is the secondary winding AC voltage specs of the PT. These specs would yield approximately 450 - 460Vdc after solidstate rectification. If you go with a Drake 1202-118 clone from Marstran or Metroamp then the DC voltage after solidstate rectification would somewhere around 420 - 430Vdc. These PT's would probably have secondary winding AC voltage specs of something like 320-0-320.
