Hi-Gain, low Watt kit?
I've built many 5F1's, 18W Lite IIB's , and a Lightning, and was wondering what you guys would recommend for a low wattage, higher gain amp? I'm leaning towards the AX84 SEL or an 18W Superlite II. 18W are cool, but I don't want the EL84 pearcing high end in a high gain amp. Maybe I could do a filter on it?

I'd go with a 6550/kt88/kt120 output tube se. It can be biased in range of -40 volts. It will give you almost the same headroom of a regular pp amp. Basicly marshall type circuit including the PI, but the for the output only one big tube. PI is a regular differential pair, so you can take an output only from one tube - an inverting one. Every thing is the same... May be you need to change the NFB resistor, since the gain of an output stage is changed.
Or... Take a look a the slash se combo schematic. It's se and high gain.
