Another TAD Super Lead build

Post by Prowler » Fri Sep 02, 2016 4:10 am

Hi! I just ordered another Super Lead kit from Tube Amp Doctor.

http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/en/shop_TA ... _Lead_3417

When the kit arrives I am going to drill holes to install the grounding lugs for Larry grounding.

Building the amp might take long this time. I only have time to work on it on weekends. It took me almost eight months when I finished my first build.

I really liked those bias test point jacks on the back of my first build so this is one going to get them also.

The PPIMV pot works nice on the front plate of my first build and I am thinking of adding it later on this one.

Wish me luck guys! :D

Good luck, I know the feeling of a long build. By the time I acquired all the parts and was able to really finish everything to my satisfaction it probably took 3 months to wrap up my JTM45...I also work mostly on the weekends in 2-3 hour stints and I like to take my time so everything is nice and neat. It's crazy for my to think that Greg Germino can build a 50 watt head in just 2 days...of course he works straight through those two days and can probably build one blind folded if he had to.

Post some pics as you go!

Here are some pics when I opened the box. Ofcourse the box was filled with
bubble wrap but I lost that picture somewhere.

Today I tried how all parts fit in to their places and measured pots and switches that they work. The turret board's holes were drilled wrong and the pilot light's hole was too small again. Just like in the last TAD kit that I built. I really like that black turret board. It looks cool.

Today I twisted heater wires. I am pretty happy how it turned out.

Today I soldered heater wires. I am not quite happy how it turned out. I think I did better last time. Maybe I will try one more time. Should I keep the heater wire as close to the chassis as possible?

Looking good Prowler! It is recommended to keep the heater wires tucked down in the corner of the chassis. I think yours look pretty good from what I can see in the pics.

Thanks Danman! I think I will do the wiring once more again and stuff it in the corner.

This time I drilled holes for the LED and bias test points and did some soldering.

More soldering:

Those wires on the bias pot look nice twisted together

Oops. There is a mistake on v7. I soldered the yellow wire to the pin 5 when it should be on the pin 6.

Looks great Prowler! I'm getting ready to start one myself. Wanna do a small, single ended circuit this go around.
