12-Series Build. UK Suppliers. Would 50w do the job?

I have just bought a set of Classic Tone for a 50W, I'll let you know how they sound but so far I have been very impressed with their products and they are cheap !

How cheap?
I guess that at the moment we're both paying same import taxes?

Well, cheaper than the other options, at least !
Import taxes are a bit of a mystery here.... there's the usual 20% VAT but although it is printed 20% when you do the maths it's...26% !
Anyway, the set cost me 310€ all included. That was with the multi B+ PT so there is a cheaper option.

Guys, I'm really puzzled. Here's another JMP with that 'over the edge' gain.



Allegedly this is just a Super Lead spec with 1-wire mod and PPIMV. So that's a 2203 effectively right? Yet I have a 2204 and it would never produce this much gain and 'fluidity'.

A Super Lead with the one wire mod has a lot more gain than a 2203. The second triode in a 2203 is cold biased and unbypassed whereas the one wire mod has two hot biased and bypassed triodes

But because the cascaded second stage is 820R with 250uF bypass on V1a there is a lot of uncontrolled (unfocussed gain that can be a bit mushy IMO) some people like it, YMMV. I find the RK 4k7 as low as I would go but experimentation with a particular amp is the way to go.
