33K to 56K??

Post by darrell » Sat Jun 09, 2007 1:30 pm

What does it do for the tone stack ??
Does using a 56K add more high mids?
Thanks

I changed 33k to 56k it changed the overall tone and feel made the amp a little warmer, less gainy. Which is what I wanted.

The higher the slope value the more you block gain (or more correctly the less you allow the stack to reduce gain) in the lower half of the filter. So you definitely boost mids by going down but you boost a lot of low end as well. Ive experimented with a slope control. Its actually pretty useful but I do prefer just 56k. Its a little cleaner all around and with mostly 'bass/JTM' values 33k can be way too muddy depending on how gainy your circuit is.

I changed it from a 33K to a 47K and found a nice medium .
Just tinkering you know.

+1 for the 47k.

The sound is a lot fuller comparing to 56k but less muddy comparing to 33k.

Check it out with a 100k pot connected to the 33k resistor and dial in the sound you like. Check with a meter the prefered value and solder it in.

Im getting ready to get back in it again I will change the resistor out for a 47K and see what its about.. It does seem to be a little flubby maybe this will tame it down some..
I think Im going to back it down to try and get more head room out of it.
Like change the V1 resistor and cap out to a 1.2k and use a 4uF cap and change out the V2 820 for a higher value maybe a 1.5 or 1.8 ??
Thanks
Darrell
