I always thought that as well MM, that Bark at the Moon was so close to RR, that when I wasn't that familiar with Randy, I thought it was the same guitarist!
Jake should have carried on with OZZY, but there was the firing of the rhythm section and all that mess, so it wasn't to be, but BATM is pure RR in spirit.

Jake has always been one of my favorites... My buddies got me tickets to Badlands for my birthday back in the late 80's. Jake E Lee was amazing to watch live. He also has my favorite tone of any of the guitar players of the era. Very dry, raw and in your face. I loved the fact that he rarely used effects to muddy up his tone.

Dusk, the last Badlands CD
Ok Jake E. Lee fans, how many of you have the last Badlands cd called Dusk. The guitar tones on that cd is amazing. It is my favorite of all the Badlands records, and I do like them all.
The record is actually not a record, its the demos for the record, so there are a couple of bad notes on the vocals, but not many. This cd was done back in the day when you needed to know how to sing to be in a band. (opps, I guess I am showing my age here) But don't let the word demo scare you, sonicly it is actually superior to the first 2 Badlands cds. Ray Gillan died before they could get into the studio to record. I know that its an expensive cd, it is only available as an import, but its worth every penny.

The Ozzy vids seem to sound like he does have something on his tone, like a harmonizer/chorus or something? I really like his tone but to me it doesn't sound like bare guitar and amp but I could be wrong.tfrost33 wrote:Jake has always been one of my favorites... Yeah man, I should have clarified that with, his tone with 'Badlands'!!! My bad... I think you're correct in that there seems to be some additives to his tone when he was with Ozzy!

yeah way cool, I loved randy at the time when those first 2 records came out. saw Jake for the first time at The US Fest and was blown away. That video is cool, I remember dressing the frets and assembling that guitar at Charvel. Man I am old. hahayngwie308 wrote:Check this out, this is why Jake is the man.......![]()

I have a few Ozzy & Badlands bootlegs, Jake is always awesome. He is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY under-rated. Sad.

I first saw Jake on "Solid Gold" lip synching to BATM. I was blown away by the phased out soloes. That was very agressive playing. Jake also was moving perfectly to the music.
Jake used a bit too much treble for my ears, but still got great tone (probably the EV speakers he preferred, which I'm not a huge fan of) He alway's had very catchy, well constructed soloes in the vein of Schenker,Roth and Rhoads. I like the basic sound of the BATM album alot. He used his modded '78 1959 Marshall head on that.
Whats he doing now ? I heard he was a mechanic at a car shop.
