Marshall Major Replica in the works ?
What is the ETA on this George? Thanks, love your work ... I introduced a friend of mine to Metro amps and he is going to be buying one soon.

Expensive transformers. And, as you say, a disclaimer, as it can be a very dangerous amp. But very neat...Roe wrote:I'd love a major kit. obviously this kit should come with a disclaimer

200 watts RMS clean...think Ritchie Blackmore live on "Made in Japan". You'll need some serious speaker power handling.Big Mike wrote:Not knowing much about them, how are they dangerous? Bad design?

Re: Marshall Major Replica in the works ?
Marshall Majors can pump out the decibels, for sure. To do that, though, they have a high B+ level (590 - 650VDC) and a higher current level than your average, garden variety Super Lead. If you're not sure what you're doing, don't poke around in any amp, we know that. But REALLY don't poke around in a Major. Or a 300PS, or a SVT...etc.
Also, there seem to be some design flaws. Marshall couldn't do their own 200w output design, so they farmed out the design to GEC. The integration of the GEC power section and the Marshall preamp section didn't work out as smoothly as Marshall might have hoped. Marshall halted production of Majors in 1974, and the reason for this stoppage seems to be that far too many Majors were being sent back for warranty repairs. These repairs were not just broken jacks or scratchy potentiometers every now and again, but rather blown transformers--big money repairs. It is my understanding that it was economically unfeasible to keep them in production.

(pinched nose for nerdy voice)Hi, Jim...I was wondering...(geeky snort) I was wondering if my Marshall Major will work through my 1x12. I have a Celestion Blue in it. Will it be OK if I attenuate?Southbay Ampworks wrote:200 watts RMS clean...think Ritchie Blackmore live on "Made in Japan". You'll need some serious speaker power handling.

No problem! Just make sure you have a truck at the Celestion plant with a conveyor belt FULL of Blues with your name on it...and a really thick wallet!thousandshirts wrote:(pinched nose for nerdy voice)Hi, Jim...I was wondering...(geeky snort) I was wondering if my Marshall Major will work through my 1x12.
