Metropoulos 2203 replica, with a few tweaks

Post by VelvetGeorge » Mon Nov 22, 2010 1:58 pm

Clips we made in the shop today of a very slightly tweaked 2203 replica. A touch of extra gain and some voicing, that's all.

Sweet. Nice "arse-end" chunk to it as well.

I take it the 2203's haven't gone away after all then.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!

83.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot!

I've built a few under the Metropoulos name.

We have most of the parts for a few kits too. But haven't listed them yet.

Here's a quick one with the Strat.

This new Zoom recorder works great for clips. Q3HD.

Sounds good to me, just the right amount of gain as it seems to clean up quite well with the guitar dialled back, can't make out the mods on the quick flash of the board tho' :?

It's just a cathode value and a tone stack value.

 let me guess a 4k7 instead of 10k on V1 and 47k/500pF tone stack (not sure about the last bit!)

George,
2203 style amps have quickly become my favorites once I found that AC/DC did use them.
This one you built sounds amazing.

It was also good seeing you!

Be well,

yours,

Fil

Love my 1980 2203. This sounds excellent in comparison. Very nice.

Killer tone. Can you elaborate on the tweaks?

Since there are no kits anymore, can one be built on request?

mmmhhhh, i think that there is a cap bypassing 10K res (a 100 - 300 micro or similar i suppose - increased gain and cleaning up with pot dialing) and 47K or 56 / K 500 pico tone stack.( i think)
Hey george, can you tell us more about it? interesting tweaks to do on stock 2203. Many people would be very happy :D

The gain increase is minimal compared to stock, I think it's a 4.7k in place of the 10k. Most of the voicing comes from the tone stack. The extra mids will definitely give it more perceived gain.
