560V, wow! Can you get modern tubes that will handle that voltage?
Metroamp builds : 68` 50w (x2), 69` 100w, 68` 100w 12xxx (x3), JTM45/100, JTM50(x2), 2203

Re: Finally starting my build
Brian said he has a pair of Valve Arts that are running at that voltage for over a year now. And I'm going with Gold Lions.
I've decided I'm gonna go with M.e.r.r.e.n transformers.
Can anyone explain to me why that name is blocked out?

Re: Finally starting my build
oh ! good to know ! cause i'm about to start such amp, and run this jtm45/100 at 560v too ! Valve art ?
i don't know how long some NOS KT66 could last, any idea ? i know that they're supposed to handle it easyly , and stay alive much longer but , what does that mean ? should i pay some new quads of GEC kt66 every 2 years, five years ?
i could buy a nos set, and compare with some valve art or you said gold lion right ? and then perhaps preserve the nos set but use it from time to time ?
are you talking about Brian Wallace using these tubes ? i'm waiting the rest of my transformers from him. it should be great in the end.

Re: Finally starting my build
yeah, i have no science and knowledge about tubes, really, i admire you guys who understand how tubes work .
But i know that i'm looking for some gec kt66, matched for ... i don't know which tube value ( ? )
and perhaps a quad of modern kt66 that could handle 560v easyly, and last long, and especialy be very close to the gec kt66.
only valve art and gold lions ?
i read that tubes have to be "burned", "matched" with a special tubes "unit", etc ... i have no idea of what it really means. and i'm building a second plexi ... lol shame on me.
i can't recognize a GOOD tube, and a GOOD quad, and for me, biasing an amp is just playing with the bias pot to read the right ammount of miliamps, where it's supposed to run. but deeper , i don't know...
any ... ?

Oh, I don't know anything really. For current production tubes, stick with Gold Lions, I'd say you have a better chance of them taking those voltages over Valve Arts.

Re: Finally starting my build
ok thanks. let me know how it turns out ! and if you have a chance to compare it to gec kt66 ...

I'd love to, but I don't think it'll happen.Xplorer wrote:ok thanks. let me know how it turns out ! and if you have a chance to compare it to gec kt66 ...
