Best Boost for a 45/100
Title explains it all.
What would be a good boost for a 45/100?
When my build is done, I'll be trying a modern day ehx lpb-1(it sounds really good when you crank the clean channel on my friend's TSL and boost), and I'll also be trying a Tube Screamer reissue.
Would the EP-PRE be a good plan?
I'll be having a boost pedal, that I need to figure out, then I'm going to build a germanium fuzz face, to get that hendrix thing goin on.
I also thought about maybe a Dallas Rangemaster clone.

Re: Best Boost for a 45/100
I highly recommend one of these:
http://www.homebrewelectronics.com/shop/germania
This unit does everything a Rangemaster does, but with far greater flexibility. It delivers a very pleasing sound with ample gain, and is remarkably quiet. I would not pay extra for the '44' version, as I didn't care for the sound of the OC44 as much as the standard Germania's AC128. It can be had for just over $100 from various outlets.

Re: Best Boost for a 45/100
I cloned the SHO, COT50, Brain Setzer, Uno Mos, AMZ mosfet, Landgraff, maybe 1 more. I like the SHO in low settings, UnoMos and Landgraff are rip offs of the AMZ, fat tone, COT is more middy replicating Plexish. Next build is a Fat Boost to try but hate knobs. They all have their shades. Im a SHO fan, 2nd is the Nocturne Brain Seltzer, very subtle.

Re: Best Boost for a 45/100
Maybe not, because the EP-PRE has only a very small amount of boost. The EP+ would be a better choice, but it is a very clean boost and won't add any dirt.Ydna wrote: Would the EP-PRE be a good plan?
I would rather miss out on a sale than have you buy something that is not what you need.

Yeah I have a Germanium and a Silicon Fuzzface in front of my 1970 Super Lead they give me all the boost I need for my Stratocasters If I want to clean up the sound I roll back the fuzz knob and the guitar volume but I usually keep the fuzz knob just short of all the way up

Alright. Just got an early 90s germanium NKT-275 dunlop fuzz face on ebay. Now I need to find the time to work on my amp.

My favs with 45/100 are:
1. Zendrive
2. Xotic AC Custom Shop
Both can be pretty transparent
The 45/100 midrange sounds so good...I want to hear the amp, not a pedal.

Ydna. Is it that you settled on a FF for a boost or are you still looking for a boost?Ydna wrote:Alright. Just got an early 90s germanium NKT-275 dunlop fuzz face on ebay. Now I need to find the time to work on my amp.

Re: Best Boost for a 45/100
Oh, I use the fuzz face for fuzz, and I'm trying to put together a Weber rangemaster clone, but the transistor they gave me has a case ground, which isn't on the pcb, and it isn't labeled for base emitter and collector, nor can I find any info on it, so its on hold for a bit.
I tried a LPB-1, but it acted more as a really light fuzz, and kinda took the top end away.
