That is a ridiculous amount of money for not particularly good tubes.
About 2.5 times what they're worth.
Personally for the EL34's I'd try and avoid Trinec, although some of the early ones are pretty good. Certainly anything from 80's onwards are NOT particularly good tubes, and 90's are terrible for lasting the distance, though they all still sound pretty good new.
That really is a VERY bad deal though.

I ran a quad of 1984 brown base trinec in my 12xxx clone a few years back and thought they sounded excellent. They were a bit used when I got them and they lasted about 1000 hrs of dimed playing before they had to go. I replaced them with a quad of xf3 which was a step up, but not by much. I paid about 100usd for the TESLA quad at the time.

32 factory code is Vrchlabi. I don't think any EL34s were made there. 33 was the Roznov factory code, and yes, those are the great Tesla EL34s. They're quite rare, though, compared to Mullard xf2s or RFTs of similar vintage, for example.
Yes, 500 is laughable for a quad of later Teslas. Even Roznov tubes aren't worth that. $100 would sound reasonable to me. You're better off with some earlier RFTs, in my opinion.
If you're after some Teslas, I might part with some of my 33s... I hate to sell them. They're hard to replace....
Why are there so many Tesla EL34s from 1984?

Hmm, I'd be very interested in a pair myself, if you'll part with them. Provided you have a set with very limited use. My only pair has a fair few hours on it now, and all my Trinecs are beginning to show signs of strain. Or rattle (I have mostly 84 and 91 Tesla's )Kevin wrote:If you're after some Teslas, I might part with some of my 33s... I hate to sell them. They're hard to replace....

I think I could part with a pair. I just had a few tested on an Amplitrex.
I have 3 or 4 pieces of early single-getter tubes kicking around, too. Those I wouldn't sell - they're pretty rare!
Let me check a little later and send you a PM.

I'll stand down the line then Kevin, and mop up the leftovers.
Been itching for a decent set of 33's.
