Re: OT noise - need some help
Shannon, i was referring to the amp inputs. thought you might double check those grounds and the 1M resistors and zig zag buss wire. does the rrrrr increase in volume with the volume pot? i really dislike those kinds of witch hunts...
might consider changing to a tip with more surface area than increasing temp. 600F is HOT but not if only a bit of the iron is in contact. not enough heat transfer.
P - yeah, there's too much thermal mass and its tricky not to cook the wire insulation getting those chess pieces nice and hot. like Shannon's reference there. good one!
wish we had the ability to get all these builds and a soldering iron and Valvestorm's experience and inventory in a room. imagine how quickly we'd knock this stuff out. Phil's chops and practice bomb. i'd travel for that one!

Yeah, the input jacks. Yup the "r's" increase with volume with both the volume/master/larmar. Yeah, I started this amp back in Feb. Robert helped me out with a blown rectifier problem, but the voltages seem to be correct with everything now. It should be working...but it doesn't. Ill get some pics up. Maybe its something simple.YMI5150? wrote:Shannon, i was referring to the amp inputs. thought you might double check those grounds and the 1M resistors and zig zag buss wire. does the rrrrr increase in volume with the volume pot? i really dislike those kinds of witch hunts...

Here is the sound. I turned up the volume and master volume. I then turn up the larmar. Then you can hear it. You'll hear me unplugging the guitar cord. Thing is, it doesn't matter if the guitar is at the other end. Just plugging in a cord does it.

Another angle of the inputs. Amazing how dirty this looks. I used the SDM layout of the 2204.

There should be 500pf (or 470pf) over 470kohm, you have a 47pf silver mica cap. A 100pf mixer cap is a mod5 tweak and it works ( i like 250 there) but I'm not so sure about the 47pf coming from the preamp pot.vanhalen5150 wrote:.

Re: OT noise - need some help
Your right. I noticed that yesterday as well. Not sure if thats the entire problem. I think I have a few 500's.

Re: OT noise - need some help
maybe it's something with the ppimv. When I first installed it there was a problem with noise and oscillation, so I moved some wires and it went away.

Re: OT noise - need some help
It's a total pig. I'll get some closeups posted this weekend. I changed the 47cap to a 500cap. No difference.YMI5150? wrote:you're feeding it too much fiber
