Marshall 1960B stereo x config
How easy is it to re-wire a stereo 4 x 12 cab so that the pairs are in diagonals rather than vertical pairs?
Am I likely to need any extra wire?

Depends if it's the stock wiring or an aftermarket wire kit. Sometimes they're long enough to go in an X pattern, but you'll have to check to make sure. Generally you're better off replacing the stock 22 gauge wire with 14-18 gauge copper stranded wire.

better yet use 2.5mm2 mains cable that will rock over most types of cable out there for rewiring cabs i use that or 4mm wire it does make a difference on the lows and highs

Real easy to do but curious to know why you'd do it.
Cheers to the ears.

I believe he might have a late model 4x12 with the two 8 ohm stereo inputs. Only reason I can imagine for him to use the word stereo. I still wouldn't do it if I was running stereo as I prefer a vertical 2x12 as it gives better sound distribution.

OK, I get that but I'm not following the diagonal wiring if all 4 speakers are in mono.

Wouldn't be mono if he hooked up two amps to the 8 ohm jacks with the switch in the stereo position on the cab.jnewlyn wrote:OK, I get that but I'm not following the diagonal wiring if all 4 speakers are in mono.

I run two amps in mono through the cab (one on at a time) and use it on its side currently for better spread of sound, but hear the top pair of speakers louder than the bottom pair. By using an X formation, I'll hear each amp the same, and retain the spread of the sound.

If the wires are too short, you can always unscrew all speakers and put them back in a 90' angle (switch places).
