Warren DeMartini
Like your Martini Shaken but not Stirred ? Warren has been laying down those articulate, lyrical leads for so time now and he always had the tone and you knew it was Warren, seperating him from the myriad of eighties hairband guitarists, again I have posted on Warren ad nauseum in the past, you loved him with Ratt, he helped propel them to another level, and thanks to Robbin 'King' as well, RIP.

Re: Warren DeMartini
You know when you are a child of the 80's ... something on the inside always hopes for the day where 80's music might just make a comeback.
..well ... sounds like Ratt is has got a serious major comeback album.
also, I always thought Warren was the shit on guitar but, could they ever capture the magic like the early days?
you be the judge....
Oh ...and Carlos Cavazo is the replacement for the last rent-a-guitar player they had.

Thanks for the links.
I've got the new Ratt disc on pre-order and am looking forward to it. I've heard two tracks so far and it sounds darn good.

I`ve had the new Ratt for about a week now and if you like Ratt your gonna love the new disc. Pearcys vocals and lyrics still leave alot to be desired but Warren sounds great and i`ve been able to pick out a few of the leads Carlos is playing. Again if you like Ratt you`ll love it if you don`t the new disc won`t change your mind.

I got a copy shortly after posting too.
I wasn't sure if I was going to be a fan of the bass player but, the drums and bass on all tracks are solid.
Matter of fact- drums and bass sound heavy and current (nickleback type production ) warren and carlos sound just like the early Ratt team of Robin and Warren -a few harmony leads here and there- and it sounds like carlos added a little different element to backup vocals , songwriting, but, a good element.
I agree about pearcy's vocals, still a little better than I expected...
true anyone who likes Ratt will like this for sure. Its a good album, hope they do well- I will still buy it when it comes out to support thier efforts for sure!
Track 11 stood out as a killer track to me but, its a much different type song for them.kinda like cheap trick meets ratt......

Re: Warren DeMartini
Hi all, I didn't want to create a new topic and spam, so I'm writing in this quite old thread.
Warren DeMartini is a great guitar player and there's no doubt about it.
I'm very impressed of his tone, its very "brown" just like EVH and I'm just wondering what kind of amp he was using during the Detonator era (probably his best guitarwork). I've found some bootlegs on youtube, this is very cool: (there are more clips from this gig)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NHh1b6uG ... ure=relmfu" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Does anybody knows is that was a Soldano amp or probably his old Marshall Plexi?
I know that he was using a metal pick and probably a SD SH-4.
I hear there a lil' touch of chorus too.
pozdro

Re: Warren DeMartini
I recall Warren saying that he used a SOLDANO as early as '89, in magazine interviews. I know he had used some old late '60's Marshall Plexi's on some previous recordings. I personally like his lead tone on 'Slip of the Lip' from '86.
I think you are right, Warren had a Seymour Duncan sh-4 (JB) pick up. That strat he was using in that vid has a mahogany body, I recall reading that somewhere.
I think it was a Soldano amp with a touch of reverb/delay and chorusing.

Is that was a SLO100? Is that amp was modded?

Re: Warren DeMartini
Not particularly, from what I've read. Warren's tone is a lot in his hands, I know that's chliched but it's true. His slightly out of the box pentatonic owed a lot to Schenker (Micheal) and somewhat Lynch in his earlier days.
Warren strings the licks along to fit the song and stays on the hunt thematically when he jams so it's all him.
He prefers the Soldanos to amps like Bogner or whatever mod flavor of the month there is on a JCM 800 or a 2203.

Re: Warren DeMartini
Yup, I know that tone is in your hands, but my DIY "Hot rodded" plexi doesn't have too much gain at all, so I'm looking for some similiar amp to Marshall "brown sound".

Re: Warren DeMartini
Warren used a new DIEZEL amp on 'That Metal Show'. Those are hi gain. I agree with Yngwie308, Warren, basically, got a medium gain tone from the amp, and let his fingers do the rest. IMO, the amount of gain he got can EASILY be gotten from a number of amps., but the 'voice' may be off. Warren used 25 watt greenbacks in the studio, and vintage 30's live.
I would reccomend a 2203 style v1 cascade and a ppimv. Those two things, on a otherwise 'stock' plexi style amp, will render great DeMartini tone for days.
