LED circuit
I wasn't aware initially that a resistor had to be in line. Now with the correct resistor, no light. Possible I cooked it?

Yup, been there done that! It doesn't seem to take much to kill them.
I did have where I left out the resistor and it buzzed for like 5 seconds like mad before it popped sending plastic in my face! Glad I had glasses on. Not one of my better moments though.
I touch them to a 9V battery real quick to test them.

Also have to have the polarity to the power source correct as well. Thats why there is a short and long leg. They are diodes in a sense. Reverse the polarity and see what happens with the resistor in line.

They are diodes (Light Emitting Diode) therefore vanhalen5150 is correct about polarity. Long leg is the anode (+), and the short leg is the cathode (-).
