Cheers RG, Levi said the 36 amp had el34s in it when he modded it, then shortly after that the AFD was recorded, it probably had a nice set of Mullards in it, those tubes last for years, no need to change them to 6550s.

not exactly....Levi have said " 36 was born with el34, on second time are changed with 6550" none know if "the second time" was before or after AFD sessions........Slash said " very bright and louder amp"......so, IMO, on AFD session have 6550......

yeah I would agree with benny, now that I have my amp wired up with 6550's, that's what I hear. I will post whats in my amp soon, gotta go to work, then band practice tonight. I have never played my amp with the g12-80's with the band, so we will see how it sounds on....its so easy or scom, having issues with my recording daw right now, so clips to come soon. im pretty happy with the spec im using now though, its a bit of a hybrid of the 39 spec with the xtra peaker and a 470k on gain 2- keeps the spiky highs/ mids away, as I believe I have the lead cones on my g12-80's.

I wouldn't agree or disagree with any of the opinions here, I just try & keep an opened mind,

here is a couple of clips from my 75 JMP 100w stock amp + ppimv, with Mullard el34s, speaker g12h30 heritage, mic sm57, just for a bit of fun :)

PS these clips were not recorded very loud.

hi, i have finished my 2203 with 6550,zero loss fx, sir 34.
it sound great but I want mod it to a AFD tone without extra tube. So i think to replace c10 to 250p and restore c4 to 500p. what do you thing? the amount of gain with #34 is good for me , i want change only the tone (fatter and darker)

there is my schematic

so change c4 to 500p, c8 to 2.2n, c10 to 250p and remore brighcap? the other mods as #34?
I have seen a video about bringcap value and I could hear that it change also the amount of gain

If you like the 34 but just want it to sound a bit bigger, then put it back to the 34 mod & try this, change the ,47u to .68u, if thats not enough then, change the .1u over the 10k to .22u or .47u, also try .68u on the pres, & maybe change the tail resistor to 10k, hope this helps
