I guess it depends on what spec you're using, but in my spec, 2.2n thins out the tone too much in either position. I have found that the 2nd coupling cap can be lowered with reasonable success to between 5n and 10n.

Thanks for sharing that BRMSlash, I recently try 2.2n on first stage and it was too thin and also seems like there was not enough gain on the low and mid freqs, I was wondering if using 2.2 on third could alow more saturation but also reduce some of the lows. Thanks for your advice

Also just wondering, what type of cathode bypass caps and cathode resistors are you using? I've recently tried some Kemet R82's 100v stacked film caps for the 2nd & 3rd stages that sound pretty good. Also stuck some in my guitar.
Cheers BRMSlash :)

In this amp i have used Mullard mustard caps & Carbon film resistors, tubes are, V1 JJ, V2,3,4, Nos Chinese, & RFT el34s.

I have also had great results with Mallory caps.

Guys, I built a JCM800 2204 clone, with mod # 34 and # 36 installed, according to the specs Dukeamps. The tone is very good, but the mod # 36 has little gain with master volume below 8. Even with preamp 8, master volume 6, for example, generates little gain. In the mod # 34 the gain is great. Does anyone know if this is normal? Or you can change something in the project? How does the amp of you?

I can provide the schematic here, but belongs to the dukeamps, he posted some time ago ... you can share your schematic to # 34 and # 36

I have understood that the mod # 36 has an extra stage, another 12AX7. With respect to Switch between choosing or not the cap 100n, would be the mod # 34 or stock. If you are looking to have more gain, change the resistance of 2k7/680n by 1k2/1uF (2nd stage)

Thanks for the tips, I'll try ... you could please post your schematic to # 34 and # 36 or send via emial?

I've been trying to tighten up the treble and bass. This clip below has a 0.47u MKT368 1st stage cathode, 0.1u r82 2nd & 3rd stages and 0.47u mkt368 4th. Also put the Kemet r82's into my guitar for the tone caps.

Interesting idea for the hiss reduction. Does it work well without altering the tone?

Increased the preamp B+ filter caps to tighten up the bass.

If you ever get the chance you could try these speakers, also try and get the old ones.
