I managed to win a set of 10 GE6550A's on eBay a month or so ago for ridiculously little money. I kept 4 of them for my #36 and then sold the other 6 for more than I paid for 10. So basically I got a quad of GE6550A for free...and made a profit lol

Good deal!. Yeah, if you keep watch you can get some nice GE's for the price of new CP tubes and they will last longer.pjoliver182 wrote:I managed to win a set of 10 GE6550A's on eBay a month or so ago for ridiculously little money. Hi guys, hope you are all well, finally got a chance to try my 4x12 Celestion g12h30 55 hz speakers, here are some clips i have done today. The amps i used were my 72 jmp 100w, & my 76 jmp 100w amps, both with a slightly different mod, but both with el34s. Only had the MV at about 1.

Well done, Duke! How do you guys get the guitar sink so well in to the mix so that it sounds authentic? My guitars are allways somehow right at my face and just floating on the top of everything like I was using an vst plugin or something. I just only play one track panned to the right or left and do not use anything more but EQ. I am using an evaluation version of Cockos Reaper if that does make any difference. Is that a compressor you guys are using? I am using a Roland Quad Capture with it's gain set on full when I am recording with a Shure Sm57 with low volume pointed allmost straight at the edge of the dust cap about 0-5m away.dukeamps wrote:Hi guys, hope you are all well, finally got a chance to try my 4x12 Celestion g12h30 55 hz speakers, here are some clips i have done today. First, try turning the volume down. The key to getting something to sit in a mix a lot of times is just getting the levels right. Obviously, if you were mixing the whole track you would also need to use an EQ, but since your trying to get your recording to blend in with an already mixed track, start by using volume and panning.
Keep in mind, Slash's guitar has had most of the bass filtered out on these recordings, so if you really want to make yours match up, put a HP filter on your track and set it anywhere from 80Hz to 150Hz and your track will sink right in once you get the level right. Don't be afraid that using an HP filter will alter your tone, because what you are going to cut out would have more than likely gotten masked by the bass and drums anyway if you got your level right. Besides, you might find yourself a lot closer to Slash's tone on the album since his track more than likely has also had most of the bass filtered out during the mixing process.
If your going to try an add some reverb, time it to the bpm of the track. But matching up reverbs is not the easiest task. The more reverb you use, the further back your recording will sound in the mix. If you use too much, it can washout your take. Or if your reverb is too loud, and not timed, it will make your recording stick out like a sore thumb. Reverb can either make or break you, but it's worth a try. If you can't get the reverb to work, try using a little delay, also timed to the track. Delay is much more forgiving, and will also give you a little space once you get your level down. You can always take them off if either doesn't sound right. I hope this helps.

Re: S.I.R. 100W SuperLead Schematic pt. II
Hi all!
I'm a newbee on this forum...
I'm building an 50W valve amp with a tech friend...
it's a 2 channel amp, like the ceriatone AFD 35, the first channel is a plexi 1987 channel and the second channel is a #36 channel.
The power amp is the power amp of the 1987 plexi.
We have done this amp and the #36 channel is not a success... it has too gain (seem to be a dual rectifier!), we can't increase the knob gain more than 2, and it is too too bright!!
I attach the #36 preamp schematics we have built, base on some layouts we have found on the web...
Can you help me to finalised this project please ? some advice on modifications that i'll have to do ??
Thanks a lot!

Tonewise that sounds pretty darn good, but I noticed there was no attack when you played. Did you use a compressor on the recordings?

Re: S.I.R. 100W SuperLead Schematic pt. II
I did the #39 build several years ago and mixed it with stock superlead for a true 2-channel amp. It really is a great circuit and makes for a great 2 channel functional, gigging amp.
The survival of this thread is an indication that this mod is one of the all-time best out there. high gain, but not too high gain...and still retains the classic Marshall cut that you don't get out of a boogie or SLO.

Iron Maiden called for the licks back!
Good stuff, Duke.
it's winter time here in Chicagoland and I needed to find something for my 13 yr old to do besides play video games. I had a botched superlead chassis lying around, so HE is building a #36.
Will be a slow project as I only have my kids part time, but he's dong really great and this is a great chance to teach him some basics on tools and electronics.
