Here's a vid that somewhat captures Mark's visicious attack. (Sorry EVH boys, Mark was doing this way before EVH and would have cut his legs out from under him (probably still can.)

Mark Hitt was and still is a huge influence on Steve Stevens, Steve even bought a 335 to emulate Mark. Mark sure tore it up with the Gibson/Hiwatt combination he is/was legendary!!

Mark played a 355, Dave. I thought it was a 335 for years myself. It's early 60's he once told me.

I was on the Ed Roman site ( had to buy some steinberger replacement parts )

and I deciced to surf the site and found these clips on Ed Roman's site that have Mark Hitt producing and playing guitar on some of the tracks.

you guys will hopefully deem this a worthy find, as Mark Hitt fans.

..and before any coaches me about how overpriced this dude is..I already know

It's been some time since anyone posted in this thread, but I just happened to run across it. I'm another one of you that was a big Rat Race/Mark Hitt fan and was at a very large number of Rat Race shows at the various Tri-state area clubs they used to play in during the late '70's early '80s and even beyond. Just saw Mark & Steve play with The Robin Zander Band while I was visiting NY at BB King's in NYC and also in Bayshore on LI the following night. They're still amazing to watch and hear.

NY Chief, You mentioned you were music director at the SUNY Farmingdale during '78. I was DJ there '78 - '79, so we definitely ran across one another. As I was also a regular at Speaks, I'm amazed we didn't share our experiences. Spent many a night talking with the band back stage during their breaks and after the shows. It was an amazing time. So much fin. A great group of guys.

These audio links are motivating me to set up my cassette deck and transfer my analog Rat Race audio to digital. Maybe I can set that up today.

Hey Chief, No, I haven't gotten around to it. See your PM. Rat Race will be playing again - the original band as we remember them from the mid - late '70s. Maybe there will be a chance to get some new audio of them.
