I have a pretty special '70 50watt head. The original 45 sounded just like it. That's how I picked. I have to say though, I really liked the Metro sound, maybe even better at least for those clips. I like controlled "thickyness".VelvetGeorge wrote:Sorry.
Timinator actually nailed it before I posted. Great clips Mike!

Great comparison, mike!
Is there also a percebtible difference in playing/feeling?
What also would be interesting is swapping the power tubes. GEC in the Metro and the Shugs in the original '66.
What preamp tubes are in both the amps?

I just talked to George yesterday about swapping tubes and recording the differences... he gave me that task as a homework assignment so expect that comparison to be posted soon! As far as feeling, the original has more powerful mids... I am guessing this is mostly due to the tubes... George also has vintage mullard pre's... I'll record some clips with just the pre's then just the GEC's and finally both... also it seems all of the controls are dialed back about 1.5 notches... for example, the original dimed is like the Metro on 8.5 as far as gain... ALL of the controls follow the same cadence.
