Digitech Hot Rod pedal

Post by dcaster » Tue Jul 06, 2004 12:49 pm

This is a great pedal. I use it as an overdrive for leads on my dirty channel and it is really HOT! Here is the problem you are going to have with this pedal: I PUT $15.00 IN BATTERIES INTO MY $79.00 PEDAL! The pedal is worth having. It is the most analog I have ever heard from a pedal. I called Digitech to ask them if it was normal to get 2 HOURS (THAT IS CORRECT: 2 HOURS) out of a good quality battery. The tech support guy said "Yea, that is about right. ON a really good battery, you can get about 2 hours and 15 minutes." Spend the extra money to get the power supply. I do recommend the PS 200 power supply. It is really quiet and costs between $10.00 and $20.00.

Wow that is garbage for battery life. But it is good you found your little honey that will satisfy you. I'll stick with my Fulltone Fatboost

Now there's two words that don't go good together..."DIGITAL" and "TUBES"!!!

There's this really cool new pedal out that I've been using for awhile that you've just gotta try! It's called a Cable Pedal. When using this, it is the ONLY thing you'll ever need between you and the amp and lemme tell ya...There's no better tone than this thing and they only cost about $15.00 and they don't require batteries. Please specify length when ordering.

Cable Pedal

Post by dcaster » Wed Jul 07, 2004 4:16 pm

I have been using the Cable Pedal for some time also. I have found that some of them work really well and some of them don't work for shit! I was looking for a Cable Pedal capo the other day. Know where I can find one? I have found that the Hot Rod will do a few things that the Cable Pedal won't, even with a capo installed. For example, when everything is all the way up to "11", it gives you that little push over the edge. :D

I have found that with my late '60's Deluxe Reverb that the Fulltone Ultimate Octave works very well for overdriving the tubes. Beware though, you must back way off on the guitar volume or all you get is mud!

For a more subtle overdrive I use DOD's Mystical Blues (damn, I love that name) it's simple and to the point. The harder you strum, the rougher the overdrive.

Since picking up the Super Tremolo, I've found that with a Power Brake I can plug straight into the dash and get the vintage sound I covet! Perhaps I'll dump all of my well maintained rats on Ebay to pay for the Power Brake mod that George does!

The Digitech Hot Rod has a wonderful sound though......

DO THE POWER BRAKE MOD!!!

I just bought the parts from George and modded my own Power Brake, but that's because by looking at the schematic I figured out how to do it and I'm pretty proficient in electronics. George normally doesn't sell it as a kit like that.

However, this mod works wonders. Actually, I do more with it than just use it as a rhythm/lead footswitch. In lead mode, I can roll the volume off on my guitar even more to get the amp go even MORE cleaner!
