I would think your 73 would be a perfect base for the Dokken Tone.
Even if yours has a PCB, then I would add either a .68uf or 330uf to V2
if not already there. It's cheap and easy and non hacking.

Does your 73 put out around 500 volt?

Another thing thing some people do to these amps to lower the voltage down to more plexi type levels is to switch the commons.
SO that instead of using the orange and red, your using the Violet and Red. Basicly it's just disconnecting the Violet Tap from the Voltage selctor and the Orange common, then connecting the violet wire where the Orange was. This way you can put it back if you don't like it.
No Hack/ No Foul

Supposedly this will get you down to 460v.

I have a Randall RG100 ES that I got for $100 and it sounds great for 80s stuff. It's solid state but it's one of the best I've heard. Lynch used it to record Tooth and Nail. Rough Cutt was another band that comes to mind. It sounds very JCM 800ish.

'74 Super Lead rebuilt with '68 metro board and old stock mustards.
'73 Super Lead
'68 Basketweave with pre rola G12Ms

Not to mention that Randall was the same one that Darryl Abbot used for most of the Pantera stuff. They sund really really wicked using an eq through the effects loop.

Not to take this thread off topic but I tried out a Line6 Ubermetal dist pedal yesterday. Pretty amazing pedal that does metal extremely well. Esp through a SL which tends to not like high gain pedals.

I heard that Dime NEVER used Randall and that he used an old plexi, out of site, usually in the back. This might explain why I've never heard a Randall that I would write home about, although Lynch's tone on Tooth and Nail is pretty cool for the time period.

Never been a fan of Randall's though...the only amp I think I would ever play that is solid state would be a Roland Jazz Chorus 120, for clean stuff. Those things are amazing.
