What is the general feeling of the 5150 III amp? Good , BAD , Ugly?
I am looking to get 'that' tone, and how close does it come?

I love them. The "clean" channel can do pretty Fender cleans up to a wonderful cranked Plexi tone. Far better than any reissue Marshall I have ever heard. Dare I compare to clones? Seriously....It does an amazing job of doing AC/DC and VH when cranked. The 2nd channel picks up where that leaves off. It too does a great job covering early VH up to the 5150 stuff. Sounds killer. The 3rd channel sounds like a 5150, but warmer to my ears. Same amount of gain, but a better midrange and smoother treble.

The volume pots have the best and most controllable taper of any amp I have used. 1 sounds like 1 should, and the transition from 1 to 10 is smooth without giant volume jumps. The EQ knobs are similar in performance too. This isn't a huge deal when you can be loud as hell, but when you are playing really small places, it can be appreciated by everyone.

No pops when switching channels. It's instant and quite.

Honestly, I have been working on guitars and playing since 87. I tell my customers it's the best pure rock amp I have ever played through. It will do any metal out there...But there are better metal amps (Engl, Splawn)... It will do blues very well, but there are better blues amps (Fender Deluxe Reverb). But it still does everything so well. It's NOT a one trick pony. Cheers to EVH and Fender. They got it right. Too bad a head is $2,000. But it kills most amps in that range in my opinion anyway. Of course not everyone agrees....that's why you gotta play 'em before you buy 'em.
