5150 Question
I have a Peavey 5150 that I purchased new in 2002. It has very little use on it until about 5 months ago I joyned a band and we play/practice once a week. I have done nothing to it (oe: replace tubes, mod, etc), it is bone stock. I run a delay pedal through the loop and that's all. Well, tonight at practice, in the middle of a song, the power cut out. It still had volume but it was very low; even when turned up all the way, the volume was still low enough that I could talk over. I shut it all down for a few minutes and when I turned it back on, it ran fine.
Does anyone know what may have happened? Please help: i have a gig next weekend and not sure what to do with it...!!!
Thank you,
Scott

Re: 5150 Question
How long have you had the problem; did it just happen once or been happening for a while? I just played through the amp in the garage for about an hour and it worked perfect. I have never taken an amp in for repair so I don't have anyone to go to. I called a guy that I found off Craigs list (said he's been in business for 26 years!?!?) and he said there could be a multitude of different things. One thing he mentioned was my pedal through the loop (which my delay pedal is about 7 or 8 years old); I didn't play with the pedal hooked up tonight; so I don't know...!!! Thnx for any help/suggestions!

Re: 5150 Question
The amp does not belong to me, I'm trying to help out a kid. He explained one day durring a jam session it just cut out to very low audible level. I checked the screen resistors and they checked out ok, I also tried new tubes. Does your amp make a click sound (relay) when you take it off stand by? I'm sure it's a relay were the sound is coming from, not sure if it's normal.

Re: 5150 Question
I wasn't listening for a clipping type of noise; however, no noises stood out as being any different than normal. I played it again for about 30 and still ran perfect!!! So I have no clue what happened; I have practice next Thursday which runs about 3 hours. I will see then how it reacts!
Thnx,
Scott

Re: 5150 Question
So, I had band practice tonight; we played for about 3 1/2 hours and not a single problem with the amp. One thing that I did do was change my chords for running my delay through the loop; I think that may have been the problem... (I hope!!!).

Re: 5150 Question
I've seen quite a few 5150's (including the 6505's) that have similar problems. Commonly, the (shorting) jacks failed. Some had ribbon connector problems and one of the 6505's had poor solder points in the power supply. Something to keep an eye or consider in case the problems return.
