Re: Laney AOR Pro Tube 50
I have a Laney AOR 50 head as well as the combo of the same model. When I got my first Laney, I experienced the same thing with the bass boost. The AOR series takes some getting used to but once you do, the bass is not a problem. The best way to get that great JCM800 sound is to pull all 3 eq knobs and dime them all. Then you use the preamp volume and master volume to balance the sound. The more preamp volume you use, the more bass you get. The more master volume you use, the less bass. This works great at lower volumes and once you get the master voume up to 5 or 6, the bass smooths out anyway. I keep reading in forums where people say the AOR series has a fizzy sound or the bass is too high. If you really think the AOR series has these problems, you haven't spent enough time with one. I have used mine for many live shows and I have received more compliments on the sound than I have on any other amp including Marshalls, Fenders, Peaveys or anything else for that matter.

Re: Laney AOR Pro Tube 50
Hi
I´m new here on the forum but I hope I can help you with the schematic...
It´s a 1987 "Laney Pro Tube AOR 50MV", with 6 knobs (Pres.,BMT, MV, Pre. Vol.), boosts on BMT-potis and a Impedance-switch on the rear.
I think it´s "pretty much" like a JCM800 2204 when you bypass the stage after the tonestack (going from VR103 to a new 1M log MV).
Cheers,
Tobi
P.S. sorry for my bad english - didn´t speak or write in your language for years

Re: Laney AOR Pro Tube 50
hey, me again
I´m planing to mod my AOR to a switchable "2204 AOR 800". I guess the easiest way would be to split the signal behind the tonestack, routing parallel to the "AOR-stage" and switch it behind a new 1M log mastervolume-Pot.
My question is: what do you guys think about mounting the new mastervolume pot left of the presence-knob... it´s just for optical reasons -but...
do you think it would get noisy due to the long cables or because it is near to the PT? any suggestions?
Thank you
tobi

Use shielded cable, ground only one end of the shield (for each cable) and make sure the ungrounded side is cut back and shrink wrapped so as to not come into contact the (center) wire and solder point.....you'll be fine. Keep in mind, you want to keep the run(s) short as possible.
