Tubes on Plexi Replicas

Post by Marco78 » Tue Feb 14, 2012 1:22 pm

Hi boys, this is my first message in this beautiful forum. I have buyed a JMP50 replica with KT66 from a UK builder.

I have to choose pre and power tubes. Some advices? No NOS/very enxpensive stuff.

I have read Jonh templeton's reviews but I'm not be able to choose.

thanks a lot

Welcome Marco

It is unusual to have a JMP50 come with KT66 (these are more usually associated with the JTM45). You can certainly run one with KT66s if you want.

I have used Gold Lions in early high voltage JTM45/100s and they are pretty good, although I do not know how long they last compared with the NOS GECs that I have in my amps.

JJ make robust ECC83s that are ok, and I believe the Tungsol RI are ok too.

All good points, and I would ask if you know what voltage you are running at the output tubes there? JJ might have made a decent pair of 66s at some point in the last few years too. You might get a great deal on those and try them.

It sounds like your amp is simply a 45 with a solid-state rectifier setup then?

Good luck, and rawk!
