Granger amps?

Post by tone? » Wed May 15, 2013 1:48 pm

How is the quality on these amps ?

I get the feeling that people are pissed at this guy for building cheaper amps?
Or ripping off builds?

How are these amps and is it worth finding a used cheap one?

Do they have cheap components in them ?

Cheers !

Just weird because it seems no one wants to discuss them

curtg used to hang out around here about 5 years ago

there were some nice clips of hotted up plexis.

his loop does bear a very strong resemblance to Steves loop tho' (bit like the rip off by Mojo for the Lifeson amp  )

neat bits of kit on the Switching Jack and Superfet Jack tho' 8)

A friend of mine bought one. It sounded alright, nothing special, so he gave it to me and I changed all the cheap parts out for mustards,NOS caps, carbon comps, lowered the filtering and it sounded good after that, like a real plexi should sound. If you buy it expect to spend a little money upgrading components to make it sound good.

Hi Skip, did he also copy your vari-watt as well or, was that an agreement? His company is still listed on your links page so, if you're pissed you could remove that.

Curt bought Vari-Watts and other products from me for several years.
We do not have any agreements in place for sharing designs etc. I have seen references to his "vari-wattage" mods on his website. He is not buying these from me.

I have a Granger M50 plexi and I think there some of the best amps ever. There cheaper but hes not really using cheap parts. He told me when looking for a amp if I wanted a exact replica of the old Marshalls to go to George. He said if your looking for something a bit different then check out mine. I did loved the way they sounded and bought one. He did a few tweaks to them to the circut to make them the way he wanted to sound. Hes not using premium Sozos in them but the parts hes using are fine. Heres a video I did for youtube of mine you will have to excuse my playingin the video Im extremely rusty after over 25 years of playing bass in bands. and Im in no way insulting the other amps like Metro or Bray when I say some of the other plexi clones are a bit more expensive. Im just saying that you get alot for the price he sells them for.

Dude, that was an awesome vid, great tone, humor (loved the part about the tuning at the beggining :D ). You kinda reminded me a bit of early Ace Frehley with your playing and tone . Cant go wrong with that amp.

But I look like a old Ace Frehley. LOL yeah forgot to make sure it was in tune first and havent learned how to edit with the Zoom camera yet. My boss thinks I should get a superman suit and put a V where the S is. And shoot me on a green screen flying through the air with my guitar. And then cut to me jumping in front of the amp. I cant decide if Im a super hero type captin or more of a Captin and Tenille type Capt. LOL Thanks for the compliments been along time since I played much guitar. Got to relearn a lot of what I knew when I was in my late teens.
