Hope this shows clearly enough, wanted to highlight stuff but my photo editing keeps locking up........
Actually the feedback resistor is a 470K on that stage in the AB165, it drops to a 220K in the later silverface amps but also gets a 220K to ground on the input to that stage instead of a 470K to cut some more signal......

Re: Bassman one wire "hot wired" mod?
...well, I'm back from exile...
Did a major cleanup of my old, old recordings when I used to wank out...I salvaged this which IS the Fender Bassman modd'ed by dad...my '83 two knob strat and the first Seymour Duncan Hot Rails PUP's...I believe this was straight into the amp, recorded into a ghetto-blaster...it was so loud I remember putting the blaster outside the room but leaving door open...
..the speakers were Celestion's with that ported hole in the back..they sounded so wickedly good I'm kicking myself for ever replacing them...the cab was a homemade 2x12 closed back made by the old man again...
...I was 15 at the time...it was for sure before I got my drivers license and before 5150...It's an old file captured off of a cassette that is almost 30 years old, but it clearly shows the gain of that amp...

Can't get to that link from work, will have to check tonight. I also have a clip (also on cassette!) not of my bassman but of my buddy's who turned me on to the hot wired mod in the first place. It was just a demo in his room and I was lucky I had the recorder running. He starts with Red House on a '69 Paul and it is just smokin tone! I'll see if I can find and post it.

I would just restore the Princeton. They are awesome and fetch 4 times what a Bassman does.

NY Chief wrote:Sparky, mightymike and I have been discussing a mod that was done to the Blackface Bassman as far back as '75 that I am aware of. That amp had killer tone. I've been searching for years to find out what that mod was. I had mine done by Jeff Bloch in Brooklyn, NY approx '77 and it was a smoking amp. He called it "hot wired" and I have no idea what the mod entailed. He is still around and I emailed him asking if he would share the tech info but he declined and I can't hold that against him. I wasn't amp savvy at all back then but I do know it wasn't much of a mod, no extra tubes or anything and it only cost $75. Unfortunately I lent that amp to a buddy and it was lost in a flood in the early 80's. I was only able to track Jeff down recently. If I was still in NY I would have Jeff do another in a heartbeat!
My guess is it may be the one wire mod. So who is in to figger thai out? I garantee no one will be disappointed if we find the right formula! I wouldn't be surprised if EVH's Bandmaster had the "hot wired" mod and that is what everyone really has been chasing all these years.
Found some stuff under a search for "one wire mod" but mostly for plexi circuits but here is onme for a Bandmaster (the plot thickens...)
