I played a vintage skylark at the store I bought the JR at and the JR Made an ass out of the skylark. I also played a 74 champ at the same place which sounded better than the skylark (and I'm not a fender lover) Both of which could have been had for less $$$$ than the JR. The JR just sounded better to me. Just in case someone thinks I'm shitting them heres the links to the amps.

I think i'm ready to go build this thing, but i can't seem to find the layout or schematic for the new ones, does anyone have one that they could take a few pictures of the layout?

I could work up a probable schematic for you. Even if its not 100% correct its probably very close.

I do have a schematic for a gibson skylark ga-5, so i was thinking of basicly building that and making changes to taste, but i do admit after playing both i like the modern one better. What changes besides the tubes do you think account for the sound differences?

Just the numbers in order: 7

I just played one of these today. Cool little amp. It went from a nice clean to a slick sounding raunch. I noticed that the volume knob stopped increasing the volume a little before halfway point and the amp just got dirty after that. Wouldn't mind picking one of these little guys up.

From what I understand the new amps use EL84s and SS rectifiers which would probably change the tone quite a bit from a Skylark considering.

it does use a solid state rectifier, an el-84 and a 12ax7, so those alone should be a pretty big change from the skylark

Yeah. Using the skylark layout with those few changes and a change in the power tube cathode values should be all you need. Its likely they may have changed another value or two in the preamp but I highly doubt they made any huge additions or changes which means the preamp is still so simple you can tweak your heart out with the 4 components you have to tweak. You cant be sure how they set up the 12AX7 though. Maybe someone here who started the thread can help with that?!?!?!? Thunder? You wanna help us out here?

This is sounding like something I may store for the future as well.

I'm not a tech so I don't know anything about the inside other than it is a SS rectifier/12ax7/el84. Hope that helps.

Can we get you to take a pic? We got a schem and it would be nice to verify it.

I don't want to void my warranty at the moment. as I said I'm not a tech and I hope I don't need the warranty but if I do I would like it to be available. If I get a wild hair and do pull it, I will post a pic for everyone.
