Do you think a nitro guitar finish sounds better than poly?

I have had both Nitro & Poly finishes on my guitars Nitro finishes take years to cure, and are generally softer than Poly and cannot take much abuse. I have found that most nitro finished guitars are more expensive instruments and usually do have a more open sound then their Poly finished counterparts. the other thing to consider is how much finish is applied, my 59 LP has a thin finish, it is much more delicate than say a stock production Les Paul which has a much thicker application of finish. I also had a custom shop nos 60's strat, Alder with a thin nitro finish that was one of the best sounding strats I ever owned. My opinion is that if I wanted a vintage sound Nitro is what I would prefer Guitar tone is a very subjective thing and depends what tone you are going for.......

No one has even mentioned the amazing tone from very little finish and large holographic letters.

a friend of mine said its not the AXE but the man behind the AXE ................................. but there is alot to be said about what happens to wood after say 20 or 30 years and the MOJO that that particular axe has.( it has to be the SRV stickers LOL )
