ok I will try that :)

I like what the 2.7k/.22uf in parallel with the 10k on the third stage's cathode added to the tone but it was definitely too much gain (and compression)
does it make 2.1K (10k with 2.7k in //) and .22 in series?
I'm not sure how to calculate this...
let say I want to add this but with less gain, may I just replace the 10k by 4,7k with a .22uf in series?

thank you

If you want it to have less effect increase the 2.7K resistor to 3.3K. 4.7K, 6.8K etc.. until you find one that works

hi,
I tried without the 470pf and well... it's not quite that, I guess I would need something in between :(
the only serious thing I can think of would be (without the 470pf) to increase the first stage's cathode resistor to 2.7k as it would be a tad brighter

or maybe I could try the 470pf in parallel with the 499k voltage divider before the third stage instead of in parallel with the grid stopper?
thank you

hi,
I tried some stuff and I'm not happy yet
I'll install the boost on the third stage and see
I wanted to know what that stuff was before messing with it so I opened some book and found (I hope) it's a partial bypass

they say "to AC, both resistor are in series with the capacitor" so the given formula is
1/[2.68x(Rk+Rseries)xCk]
in this case (10k+2,7k)
1/(2.68*12700*0.00000022)=57Hz

as I said this was too much gain so as you suggested I'll change first to 4,7k, this would change the roll off to 49.2Hz
I'm afraid it'll anyway muddy the bass, we'll see...

Try 4k7 with 220n and report your results. You can try 100n instead of 220n too for less gain in bass freqs.

Haha! Just saw this topic :o

What makes you think, that the 2.7K in series to the .22 is a "factory mod"?
Is this also a "factory melted" Wima cap next to the mod?`

I see the modder rather located on canadian territory, than on US territory.
And by some reason I think/know, that this mod was done in or after July of 2007 8)

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

Whether it was actually done at the factor you might question, however the actual mod itself has been a factory standard since 2004

yes the mod in the picture is not from the factory but the it's the correct values
and as joey said they now come like this out the factory but cleaner

I've tweaked a lot and the "best" I could get was 820/.68 into 4,7k/4,7k/2,2uf into 6,8k with partial bypass 2,7k .22 and .0022 instead of .022 coupling
220pf plate bypass instead of .001,
but I didn't like it that much, still too much gain on the red channel plus the type of master, 500k gain pot really doesn't help
I just sold it...
