Aria Pro (I know but it was cheap)

Post by dcaster » Wed Apr 13, 2005 12:51 pm

I am actually asking this question for a fellow musician. He has a 335 copy made by Aria Pro. He plays in The Ghettobillies. The guitar has this Union Jack paint job and he had the pickups replaced. He says that the pickups are vintage 57's but the neck pickup isn't a neck pickup at all. He is looking for a good, inexpensive (remember, working musician) pickup for the neck. Any help?

If he's got more patience than money, have him get a hold of Jeff at High Order Pickups. Hand wound PAF style pickups in a couple of choices of wind, and your choice of magnet, $55 uncovered. They sound KILLER but it was a four week wait for mine. www.highorderpickups.com

Nice to see these catching on. I can't imagine a better pickup for the price, and I bet you would have to let go of $300-400 per set to get anything better.

Would love to hear a comparison by somebody between the HighOrders and WCRs.

I agree. Jeff's pickups were a very pleasant surprise for the amount of money. His 8.3K AlNiCo 2's that I got for the bridge slots in my Gibsons are great. A bit more juice but they get that same balance of lows and mids with a bright sweet top end that I haven't heard out of a Gibson since before my buddy's dad auctioned off his '59 ES335. (The bastard, he had no idea that guitar was worth so much coin. I could've walked in and given him $500 for it, but I would have felt like shit for doing it, so I told him what it was and how much it was worth.)

I'm still waiting for mine, but from what Flames says this should be exactly what I'm looking for. In fact, I'm so sure that I'll love them I went ahead and added a second set to my order so I'll have a set for my Paul and one for my Flying V that I'm almost done refinishing. Plus, Jeff was the only place I could find that had black/white zebras, which will look cool as hell in my V after I get it painted black and put the white pearl pickguard on it I made. Obviously I would never get pickups just based on how they looked, that was just an added bonus. 8)

You'll love them man.

I ordered a 9.7 Maximus that I put in my '76 LP Custom and now it just screams!!!

Don't get me wrong, a ton of PAF vibe still, but the Hell raising LET'S ROCK!!! version :)
