You have to unsolder the cover where it joins to the backing plate, then push it off the pickup. Some type of de-soldering method may help, be it a sucker or braid, otherwise you might have to heat the joint and pry the cover away from the solder CAREFULLY. Let it cool so you know it won't stick back to the backing plate, then go ahead and push it off.
Getting them off is easy, it's installing covers that sucks.......

Be careful you don't clip a winding or your screwed. They may also be waxed. I pulled covers off an epi Explorer I got a deal on and spent hours cleaning the wax out of the bobbins. Just throw a Duncan or HOn in thing instead. It'll sound better and you'll still have the original.

If it's wax, prepare for a mess man...

I've always just "popped" the solder by carefully...and I mean very carefully using a flat head screw driver and wedging it between the pickup and the cover right next to the solder and give it a slight twist and "pop" breaking the solder joint. of course....this does tweak the pickup cover but...it's the easiest and quickest way of removing it and I've never had any problems afterwards.....but....unless you've done it before...I take no responsibilty for suggesting this method...hehe
