Peavy 5150 - Good, bad, Worth $300?

Post by alwittlich » Sat Jan 29, 2011 5:46 pm

Guy wants to sell me one for $300. Missing one power tube. Haven't tried it out yet. Is it worth my time. Kind of looking for an amp to A/B with my 50W Metro plexi clone for a clean, or maybe it will be the dirty. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Heard the clean wasn't too good. But for $300 bucks! I'd drop the cash on it, it might make a good backup head. Or practice room head, or whatever. People spend more money nowadays on pedals. I've never looked at the schematic but there's gotta be some good mods for it.

300, Hell yeah. Wont do clean. Very high gain but it has glass in it so you can work with it.

If it's the original series head, expect to have to re-bias it to warm it up. For some reason it is arctic cold from the factory. It was the #1 complaint about the amp. Most people are much happier with it after it's warmed up.
Interpretation?! I thought I was playing it right!

For $300 take it. You couldnt buy the tubes in it for that.

Yeah, I would grab it for that, If it works and They are KILLER SLAVE AMPS, Run your metro dry which you typically do and use a load box or if you have FXloop, use the send to the front-end of th 5150 set on rythm channel boost off cranked alittle and throw in a lexicon (detune) in the loop and you are in Big Tone land"!
