I only took the time to listen to one clip (it's late and I'm pooped dammit...) but that sounds better than the RI tweed Bassman amps would seem to get credit for. Any mods to make it closer to an original? Changed speakers, NOS tubes, PTP board? Maybe the difference is that it sounded pretty "tight," more like a later Marshall?

all stock but the pwr tubes are jj and the pre tubes are eh. for those clips i used a boss eq to boost level and mids.also used a ss rectifier which makes it tighter and louder.

sounds nice. Have to say thats probably the first time I have knowingly heard a Bassman, so I have othing to compare it to. I like the way it sounds.

Its not easy to tell from clips but in this case Id say that RI sounds like it has a lot more treble and is a lot more aggressive in general then the orignials and clones Ive heard/played. Its tighter. Probably the SS rectifiers and 6L6s as opposed to 5881s which are a bit more fluid and not as high and lo boosted. Sounds like its better for rock. Sounds like it would be perfect for Funk49 with a Tube Recto.

A lot of old ZZ Top sounds like a Bassman to me. I could be wrong, though. It seems to be a bit of a tough row to hoe figuring out what Gibbons and his producers and engineers used to get his sounds, sometimes.

That's funny that you'd mention ZZtop. I was just listening to their first Album and wondering what he used to get that really fat tone. Gibbons's tone on those 70's albums just rules. Can't find any info into what he used. Supposedly it was a tweed deluxe, or a 68 plexi, or 69 plexi. Who knows. Anybody know?

One article I saw he claimed to have walked in with a Les Paul, a Strat and a '69 Marshall 100 for the earliest stuff. But that doesn't sound like what I hear, or at least it's not a '69 Marshall but a much earlier one.
I'd buy the tweed Deluxe theory.

I also really love the sound of the beginning of "Brown Sugar" where you hear not only the guitar amp, but also his picking bleeding through on the vocal mic. Sweet.

Yeah, it sho' is fine. "Just Got Back From Baby's" is way cool, too. Those are a couple of my favorites.

Incidentally, can you imagine if "Brown Sugar" were just released today? There'd be riots in the streets...

Yeah, or a new Archie Bunker...

I swear we've gone backwards...which is also evidenced by all the rap crap.
