Late 70's Twin at pawn shop

I couple of months ago I see this Master volume Twin setting at a local pawn shop. I spun it around and noticed right away, it had 3 pre-amp tubes missing and mis-matched speakers, thinking I might score a deal on a "project" amp. I inquired and recieved an emphatic, "it's been sold". I thought the guy was a little overboard when he said it, gace me the feeling somehow it was his or for a buddy, anyway I moved on.

I found my self in the same pawn shop this week, lo and behold, there's the Twin. It was tucked away in the corner with it's face to the wall. Again I inquire, had a guy pull it out so I could take another look. This time I noticed the PT was only hanging by 2 bolts, so that the one side was sagging down. This time, I found out the amp had been on layaway since April 2010. When I asked, the guy at the store said I should call back after he spoke with the manager. I mentioned the amps current state and again hoped I may score a decent deal.

When I called back, the salesman told me, "Yeah, we know it has some issues but $450 firm." Is it just me or is that way to much for a late 70's master volume Twin, in the shape described? It seems anything with the Fender moniker is viewed as gold. I'm thinking $450 for that amp in good used condition would be a good deal but more in line with the market.

I wonder what $300.00 cash in hand would do to that $450.00 firm stance?

Don't know if this is the same amp, but it's on the local Kijiji (Canuc CL). He's asking $1000, but nobody is biting.

NOT my ad BTW

My thoughts are more like $100 $150 tops. The PT is an expensive item if it needs replacing.

Sounds like those dudes have spent too much time watching "Pawn Stars" on TV... The best you can probably do is forget about it and let them choke on it... :x :stars:

I'm sure it will still be setting there in 6 months, maybe make another run at it then.
