Can a solid state amp be ran without a cabinet, or does it need to be hooked up to a cab or dummy load?
Ive done it with little Marshall lead 12 mini stack heads, but not sure if it's safe to do with my modded Randall RG100ES.
(Wanna come out of the back of the Randall into the front of a Superbass)
(yeah..S.S. is blasphemy..but if it sounds good, I'm happy)

Ive owned an rg 100es for many years. I tried this into the front of my 71 1987
but thought it sounded like s``t. Doesn't seem to hurt the Randall tho . Mine sounded
pretty damn good on its own thru a 1960a w greens . killer for an ss amp.
btw how is yours modded ?

I like mine with almost any speaker & cab combo Ive tried so far. Even sh*tty celestion 75's. The only sspeakers I tried that I hated with it were the Jaguars that came factory w the randall 4x12s from that same era. My Broe bought a mint 85-86 (?) snakeskin stack that was all original. I tried it with one of those cabs & hated it. Anything else has been cool. Even a cheap CGM cab with some no-name 8 ohm speakers sounded good.
I had been running it w the clean & dirty channel at the same time, w the gain on the dirty side turned down, and an Ibanez Tube King up front. It really sounds good that way

Last year I coulda hooked you up. I was buying em & selling em. I ran thru several of em til I got an early one. (I think those sound better. The chrome cornered ones with the wider front panel). They seem a bit smoother on the top end.
My Broe has an 80 in good shape. Missing a knob (had a pot replaced & the knob wouldnt fit the new pot's shaft).
Let me check w him. He wheels & deals alot. He may sell it.
Check craigslist. Thats where I was buyin' em up at.
When you get it, clean the insides out & tighten all the screws on the inside of the chassis. thats the source of a problem alot of people have with them. I bought 3 that were supposed to be junk, that only ended up needing a cleaning & re-tightening.
