Does it make a difference to have the tone controls in front, so they don´t attenuate as much ? Aren´t they less effective that way ? Some of the gain must come from the preamp.

How big is the difference, output wise, between 6V6 and EL34. I could look it up, but you guys probably just know these things....

It looks really simple from the layout. Where would the trouble spots be as far as lead dress goes ?

Hi Guys,

The Heyboer tranny's are sold by a guy named "Moose" at the Wreck forum. They run about $150 plus shipping for the set.

Up until I built my clone, my favorite amp was my JTM45 clone. I don't use a lot of distortion. I plug directly into the amp with no pedals. I still love my JTM45 but there is something about the Wreck that I prefer. It is bright but the bass response is adequate. The complexity is hard to describe. It's a combination of tone and feel that I haven't come accross in any other amp. I definately prefer EL34's in it but the 6V6's are good also. The 34's are just more touch sensative to me. Like the difference between playing a 50 watt Plexi and a 100 watt Plexi. The 50 is good but it just doesn't sound like the 100.

The wreck DEFINATELY sounds better through a 4x12 cab.
I highly recommend this build. I did not have any problems with oscillation in the pre-amp. I made ALL lead dress as short as possible coming off the pre-amp board.

DO NOT USE a cheap pot for the volume control. I used an ALPHA originally and had to change it to a PEC which I am much happier with. The taper on the ALPHA was not good. It's entire sweep took place between 9 and 11 o'clock.

It really is a great amp. I need to build a cab now.
