Hey all,

Well, I have built (2) 64 Blackface Vibroverb clones and 1 of George's 100 kits.

Now, does anybody do an AC30 Top Boost kit that is on par with George's Plexi style kits????

Just curious.

MMMMMmmmmmmmmmm.......AC30. Yes I would love to. And a big bad-ass SVT too. But I'd have to include rubber suits with the SVT kit to keep people from electrocuting themselves.

Seriously, I don't know of any Vox type DIY kits. But I haven't looked either. If anyone knows of some, please share. I'd like to build one myself.

nik over at ceriatone should have his AC30 kits ready by now. he is from malaysia so his prices are really good, and the quality is top notch.

I think the problem with AC30 kits is the vibrato channel. It nearly doubles the amount of components in the amp and is needed to get the AC30 sound. It feeds the phase inverter and gives it a unique mid centric sound. The boards sold by Nik at Ceria are a simplified AC30 taken directly from Hoffmans board design. They leave out the vibrato channel and the unique PI design. Ive built one of those myself. You can think of them as older AC30/4 amps with an added top boost channel.

yeah, cloning an actual complete AC30 looks like more trouble than its worth. but niks got just the essentials. were you pleased with the tone of the kit?

I didnt build from anyones kit mind you. I used an old tag board like orignal AC30s used that I found somewhere (I forget who made it.) I think it has a great clean sound in the bright channel. The Hoffman design isnt an exact vintage AC30 either I dont think. I followed a factory AC30 schem for the bright channel and an AC30/4 schem for the normal channel. I had to experiment more since theirs no good resource for AC30 circuits like here for Marshalls. You can still use the boards Nik or Hoffman make and just leave out a few things if you goo by certain factory schems. Im not sure which version Hoffman was making. I didnt try. If you use Niks board you can always put the extra components on and try the 2 things to see what there about.
