What sounds better to you guys: carbon, alkaline, lead acid or gel batteries in a pedal?" And at what voltage?

Cheapo 9v in all overdirve/distortion/fuzz type pedals, alkaline in everything else.

It depends.

I like a Carbon battery in most true fuzz pedals, like the old Foxx I have.

In my Wah pedals it depends. In my original 70s Crybaby I like the Carbon batteries. In my newer Dunlop or Vox I like the alkaline.

In my other pedals, alkaline seems to work well for all of them (not that there's a lot - Boss Chorus, Dunlop Vibe)

I haven't tried lithium.

I couldn't give a damn, as long as they're cheap.

Ha ha, ain't that the truth. I can get Dynex 9V batteries for $0.95 from Best Buy with my employee discount! I don't go through them alot since everything in my pedal rig is AC powered and only my modded V847 wah is on a 9V.
