FALSE HARMONICS RULE!!!
OK guys...just a little FYI. I see this all the time, guys referring to the DC resistance spec when they're referring to the pickup's output. The DC resistance holds absolutely no revelence to the pickup output. DiMarzio even states this in their catalog. While high output pickups typically have a higher DC resistance than low output pickups, the rule is not "the higher the DC resistance the higher the output". There are several high output pickups out there with a lower DC resistance than you'd find on say a "JB" humbucker. So don't get too caught up in the DC resistance spec.

I got a JB so I could do my lame Warren DiMartini impersonations. I'm not a huge fan of the tone but it splits REALLY well and does a great single coil sound. Since it's a 14k pickup, the split coil at 7k is right in the ballpark. I tried splitting a Distortion and it was pretty yucky.5150loveeddie wrote:Just got a S/D "JB" colors are sweet but a bit TOO HOT for me!!! Any other suggestions?

Please do!! All my recording gear is in storage so I sure can't make clips of anything.Zoso wrote:I just got an email from Jeff at High Order, my pickups go out Monday. WOOHOO!![]()
So hopefully I'll have them by end of next week. I'm thinking of doing some before and after clips of my Duncans and the High Orders.
I thin you'll enjoy these pickups a lot. I'd been having so much fun with them cranked up that I hadn't noticed how crisp they stay when you roll down the guitar volume. There's a lot of shades of clean and distorted with these pickups and a Marshall.

Yeah Im game on these as well. I will be ordering my first High Order next Friday. 12 to 14k ceramic magnet using 43ga. wire. Cannot wait. custom to my specs pickup wound for me for a really really nice price. Jeff could make a mint off of people for performing this service but his prices are insanely cool.

That's what I'm looking forward to is investigating all the lower volume tones. The Duncan's are better than the stock Gibsons, but they still lose clarity and punch with just a slight rolloff in volume. And I don't like the way they sound with bright caps on the volume pots either. Hopefully, I'll have better results with the HO's.Flames1950 wrote:Please do!! Quite frankly, they friggin rule. Most balanced tone I've ever had. Finally got to hear some clear highs. I actually had to adjust the treble on my amp for once. I did some clips of them and the Duncans, but I did a full volume and rolled off volume clip of the bridge and the neck of each pickup type, and one of the middle position of both types. So I ended up with like 12 megs of MP3's, which is over the limit for Digital Sound Planet. I'll try to condense them down to smaller clips and see about posting them, or maybe I'll post the full clips at Soundclick. I haven't registered at either site yet, so I'm not sure how it works. I still think the Duncans are great sounding pickups, but for my setup and tastes, the High Orders are perfect, which is due not only to the emmaculate construction and detial, but also the fact that you can choose the winding and magnet type to suit your needs. Plus, the zebras look cool as hell in my natural top Paul.Anonymous wrote:What's the verdict on the High Orders?

I highly recommend these pickups!!

I got a 8.3k Alnico 5 for the bridge and a 7.6k Alnico 3 for the neck. If I had it do again, I would probably have went with a 7.8k for the neck just to balance it a little better with the bridge, but it's not that big of a deal. And the middle position with these two is the best I've ever had.
