Neither, Kenny, This is what I wrote in an email to Brian Reuschling at Acme guitars after a few eeeks with the Suhr V60LP....ohmygodtheykilledkenny wrote:V60lp or Fralin, this is the question.
The Fralin VH's are back in the strat. After a couple of recordings and numerous gigs with the v60lp's, ( and I'm laughing as I write this ) I've went back to the fralins. The suhrs rock no doubt, however they don't have very much of that "grainy" character the the vh's have. Surs are more detailed but with a somewhat processed nuance, dare I say it almost like kinmans? I just think the vh's sound more "honest", if they could get rid of that upper mid spike and still retain that natural spit and snarl they have, they'd be perfect.
And the response....
Funny you should be at that point – I am too. In fact, I’ve recently decided that both the Suhr V60LPs and the Lollar Blackface models are a bit too “warm” for my tastes and lack the edginess of a good single coil. I am going to pop a set of the Lollar Blondes in my main Strat – hopefully this week. They have a bit more clarity and upper presence which gives them a less-round sound than the Suhr or Blackface pickups. I still like both of those models in the bridge position, but the neck pickup sounds a bit too dark and “wooly” by itself so I want something with more cut and definition. Great minds think alike…?
But if you really wanna Kick ass in a true vintage strat single coil Kinda way it has to be the VZ vintage plus. Period.

Hi Guys try Kinman pickups, they are the best by far...

For single coils, I LOVE the Fralins, IMHO the BEST singles ever made. I had the blues Specials in my Tele, and in my SRV strat. In the Bassman, or my JTM-45, the strat is the best blues tone you could imagine. If you want blackmore, Hendrix, yngwie, your gonna need a pedal, but these are the finest pickups I could ever recommend.

O Christ, our hearts are yours; possess them always and only for Yourself.

Lindy Fralin Strat pickups
I have 5 strats vintage hot in all of them with the steel bass plate on the treble pick up. In terms of D.C. resistance 6.0, 6.0 and 6.8 front to bridge. Alittle on the hotter side. This pick up better than the many others I have tried over the years, retains the high end detail I want to hear. If I hit the string harder it drive the amp's input harder. Other factors for consideration are string gauge, the pickup is after all a transducer ( I like boomer 10.5 alas, I do not practice regularly enough to use 11 or 12). And proper pole piece-string distance.
