I am a die hard Les Paul, SG and Marshall man. I love the balls and power of my Les Paul but am interested in a Les Pau Junior. Are the P-90's more aggressive than the stock Les Paul Pickups. I have heard that they are high output. Just Curious.

They are high output for single coil pickups, a lot beefier than the average vintage Strat pickup, but probably not quite as much output as a humbucker.
They've got a rippin' midrange snarl that's all their own.

I agree. Nothing can beat the fat sound of a LP, but if P90's is your drift, then sail away.

I've been thinking about getting a LP jr. myself. Leslie West used one and his tone was huge. Pete used a SG special with P90's for Live at Leeds, and the Isle of Wight and his tone was huge there also. I don't know if any of you all have listened to the new Greenday album "American Idiot", but Billy Joe's tone is ripping mid-range all thru plexi's and modded plexi's. I've been looking and vintage LP Jr's are pricey, but you can still find LP Jr's with SG bodies 63-66 for $1500 or so. Those single pup Lp Jr's look really cool too.

I think there is a lot of studio magic on the new Green Day relase too, and his plexi's have to be modified.

Despite the mods, and the definite studio magic, I think alot of BJ's sound comes from those vintage LP jr's he's been using. I like it. It's defintely a unique tone. I want one. 8)

I wouldnt doubt it. Im not a Green Day fan at all but I wont deny Ive found myself listening to them on the radio often because that tone he's got is great especially considering where hes at as a guitar player and the kind of music he plays. Youd never expect it. Thats probably why that thing I read about CAE stuck in my mind. I remeber seeing them on Reverb and he was playing an SG into the Marshalls and just working the volume and I thought the live sound was great.

So speaking of P-90's I found this LP Jr. and if it's still available I'm thinking it would be a nice addition to the family.
'63 LP Jr. SG body all orig. except the tuners $1425.
What do you guys think?

Somehow those P-90 SG's never seem like they are worth their value.

Yeah, I decided not to go with the sg. Just bought the Darkburst pickups and now saving for a new OT and new speakers for my cab.

I got an sg with p90s and the guitar rocks!!!!!!!!
I can nail any AC/DC, Who, Free and ny Rock band of the 70's with it and the guitar sounds good with any genre of music at the flick of a pickup switch but saying that old wood is better than new wood. The SG has a fender type sound. but I swear by Gibson p90s now after using them with a vintage amplifier they sound the "dogs bollocks" Probably the p90s they make now are shite!! I don't know.
