Serial # 28591 ends it for the Ep-3 Models
but, I couldn't tell you anything about the Ep-4 units and how the serial numbers start or end.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
I bought one in the 3 range. But it looks exactly like an EP-3, nothing different. I'm not sure how to distinguish an EP-4.

You can go to
www.schematicheaven.com
All models of the Echoplex (schematics) are listed in the effects section.
If you need an echoplex manual, just PM me your e-mail address.
I have one I can send in PDF. format.
It looks like the download section for manuals is no longer up at Schematic Heaven.

...yeah I was going to e-mail him about that!
Isn't the ep-4 box an army greenish color??
AtomicChunk , did you get the serial correct?
move your delay slider to the right and look thru the gap in the center.

Yup, 33721, no doubt about it. I've been trying to get a pic up on my site but am having problems.

I just bought an Ep-3 that is in the #32,750 serial range and it is definitely not an Ep-4.
Here is a shot of an Ep-4. I had one when I was a kid and I remember it with little fondness. Incidentally I sent my Ep-3 off to Orbit Electronics last week for an overhaul, should get it back in a month or so. Anybody use Orbit here?

Yea EP-4's seem to have all that
extra stuff. I assume there just isn't a manual available in the highest serial range.
I want to send mine somewhere too and pick up a few tapes.

I have 3 units EP2 last revision (tube model green box), Maestro EP3 serial 9888 2nd revision and Maestro EP3 #2 serial #20,162 3rd revision.
Ep3's start at 9065 I believe and go to appx 9450 for the first revision. 2nd Revision starts after 9450 my #9888 falls into the second revision that ends arround appx 12,500. I am going to guess 9888 is 71-72???
Looking at all the EP3 schematics it seems revision 2-3 have only one difference I can find. My #1 #2 EP3's sound different in spite of the same circuit...one is very bright and one is very dark. I cannot understand why though. It would nice to get them a little closer in sound.
Is there a way to cross serial numbers to exact years? Anyone?
Cheers,
Eric

I agree....at least you know your 28xxx is one of the very last and both of them are the third revisions. That narrows it a little bit. My new 9888 EP3 is around the 800th made which is pretty damn early

guessing circa 70/71 I just picked this 9888 EP3 up from a client for one bill

It is almost mint and had the original footswitch (RARE) instructions and papers with it

The guy never used it! I have had my #1 EP3 since I was in High School, it is the only effect I use unless I switch it out for the tube EP2.
For depth and more complex nuances the EP2 cannot be beat, but the EP3's have a character I dig as well.
Cheers,
Eric

For a rough date of manufacture you could read the date codes on the pots, and the serial number on the motor.
