Just received my '74 Vintage MXR Phase 90 Reissue... Man this thing sounds exactly like the originals...very smooth and funky...and also very low noise floor.

This is really does capture Eddie's Phase 90 tones using my Metro built '68.

Get one!! At $120 USD it's a great deal.

+1 to that as I got one too. $119 shipped to my door. did you guys put the battery on top of the foam or underneath? and is it really necessary to get a true bypass on it so it does not suck the tone?

On top...if there's a better way...

true bypass is not necessary...especially since it is a reissue. I'd be disappointed if it did have a true bypass...

I was pleassntly surprised that when the speed control is full up it gets very close to univibe-ish warbles.

But wonderfully warm...I can't believe I waited to buy one of these for so long.

I just got one ...How do you deal with the battery? Criminy once on a pedal board you can't be plugging and unplugging the thing. That is one thing I hate batteries. And to make matters worse the unit is negative ground to the case.

This pedal sounds great but what a pain in the tookus. I opened it up to put a battery in and now I can't close it or it shorts out. This is the second one the first one did the same thing. If I leave the bottom shimmed open with some Allan wrenches as spacers it works great. If I file the edges of the lid off so it doesn't push the board against the jacks I think it will work. Pretty pathetic really. I even tried a wrap of electrical tape on the board did not help. Probably because of all the component ends that stick straight out the top surface.

Well not sure if it is the real deal. It does sound good. But it is a royal pain. I machined off the edges of the bottom so it didn't push the board in so hard. I also added an AC cord, lamp and true bypass switch since I was in there anyway and didn't want to go back in any more than absolutely necessary.

you can't hook up a power supply line to it? i just broke down & bought $170 voodoo 2 so i could isolate all my supplies & actually be able to hook up some of those reverse polarity fulltone fuzzes. i refuse to have any batteries on the pedal board, i forget to unplug them anyhow!

I got the Re-issue one w/ the LED and the power jack. It sounds just like my original, although a tad stronger. I did not want to take my old one at gigs anymore and this is the perfect substitute: the sound, the look, a LED and a power jack. I paid $100 [shipping included] through an eBay store.

If you're asking if the 74 comes with an AC jack the answer is no mine didn't. I did hook a wire to the battery clip and run it out too a VooDoo Pedal Power II+ and it works fine that way no cursed battery. Since I am running AC now I added a lamp too oh and true bypass.

The 74 reissue has a unique board hand wired and discreet components. Not your typical Phase 90.

MARCO wrote:I learned that the EVH Phase 90 and Script Reissue are not that different. If you look at the interior of both phasers, the only difference is probably going to be that the EVH has a push button to activate it to "Script" where the reissue already has that feature built in.
Yeah, that's pretty much right, except the Script reissue (NOT the '74 Custom Shop one) actually IS an EVH model but just in a different case. If you take the board out of one of those Script Reissues you'll actually see the button for changing it from Block to Script!! Exactly the same board! Drill a hole in the Script reissue case and you have the EVH Phase 90 model! Cheeky b'stards. And do you know the WORST thing about my Script reissue, is that the button WASN'T depressed on mine, so my Script reissue was in 'Block' mode when I bought it!

Still, it's amazing sounding. So if the 74 version is even better then I'm just dying to hear it. 99% of people though would accept the first Script Reissue or EVH model to be more than close enough to be honest.

I've a/b'd my 74 non LED script RI with an original and the only difference was how much knob you needed to equal the older one. Probably just a pot thing... but they were virtually identical.
